Marie used to live the rich life with her parents and her adopted sister, living as a happy-go-lucky kid. Marie never knew what her parents did as a career, until one day when they brought her to their work. She then learned that their parents were apart of a mafia formed in their city, and that her little sister Elise worked as an assassin for her parents. When Marie saw her parents threatening an old homeless man who couldn't pay the money he owed, she tried stopping them and ran away with the man. The man gave her all of the money he had ever owned and told her to run away. She did so, and she would soon enough meet her partner.

Torte was abandoned by his blood mother only to be found by a caring Ambipom mother. He lived with 14 Aipom siblings, and he always visited a gang down the street. This gang included a Snover, Cacnea, Snorlax, Cubone, and Nidoran. They all taught Torte what was "right" and what was "wrong". One day, Torte was robbing a small store with his gang and met Marie, being convinced by her to travel with her instead of with a group of bad guys who don't get anywhere in life. They then traveled together into the fog, not knowing the adventures to come.
